In this unprecedented collection of 15 years of spectacular shows at the famous gallery Ralph Pucci International art, furniture, design and mannequins meet in the most unpredictable and imaginative ways.
Ralph Pucci’s SHOW begins in 1954, when his parents opened a mannequin repair shop. When Pucci joined the family business in 1976, he greatly expanded the company’s purview and reputation. He began by hiring a sculptor to make original mannequins, and from that Ralph Pucci International was born. Ever since, the company has been ahead of the art curve.
Pucci is an innovator, melding art and design in unconventional new ways. Beginning with the revolutionary Workout mannequins, SHOW explores Pucci’s seminal mannequin designs, including The Olympian-Goddess, created in conjunction with Andree Putman. With pop artist Kenny Scharf’s one-eyed green mannequins, Pucci revealed an even more daring side, and several years ago he brought the industry to new levels by building the legendary Christy Turlington yoga mannequin, created exclusively for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.
However, Ralph Puccis is much more than mannequins. He is a true pioneer in the world of art and design, constantly searching for new inspiration from diverse and eclectic sources. Ralph Pucci International brings modern furniture, lighting, and floor coverings together with sculpture, fine art, and graphics. Elle Décor magazine recently compared him to Lorenzo de’ Medici and Sergei Diaghilev for building a layered and complex mixed-media art environment unlike any other. And this spring, the Wall Street Journal praised Ralph Pucci for “elevating design to the level of art, enabling furniture to command prices and recognition that was previously only afforded artists.'
Glitterati Incorporated and Elle Décor joined together Ralph Pucci International’s New York based showroom for the launch of SHOW. Twelve of the contributing designers were present that evening making for a very successful event.
