STRUTTING THEIR STUFF ON BROADWAY
Pedestrians on Broadway in New York will get a chance to stroll among the handiwork of some major stars from the fashion world this summer. A parade of 30 mannequins, decorated by such names as Kenneth Cole, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Nicole Miller and Diane von Furstenberg, will be displayed along the pedestrian plazas on Broadway from June 24 to September 6 as part of the 'Sidewalk Catwalk' event created by the Fashion Center Business Improvement District.
'This high-profile exhibition will showcase the extraordinary design talent of the New York fashion industry and the authentic New York district they call home,' says Fashion Center BID deputy director Gerald Scupp.
Serving as the canvas for the designers' designs will be mannequins from Ralph Pucci's Manikin Collection. (Shown is an 'undressed' prototype mannequin from the display.) Those one-piece figures will be bolted to steel plates sitting atop circular concrete pedestals. Fashion designers will decorate their mannequins with resources from the area, such as buttons, beads and trim, along with weatherproof materials (not fabrics) from Material ConneXion.
Also sponsoring the event is Macy's, which plans window displays, merchandise and in-store events celebrating the show at its Herald Square flagship.
