The official unveiling of The Fashion Center Sidewalk Catwalk, a public art installation of designer-made mannequins, is Thursday but starting this morning designers will be installing their creations. Jason Wu, Thom Brown, Rebecca Taylor, Tommy Hilfiger, Carmen Marc Valvo, Betsey Johnson and Mark Badgley and James Mischka are among the 30 who have reimagined Ralph Pucci made mannequins to help dress up the Garment District.

Johnson's version will feature fresh flowers and greenery that she intends to replace if needed. 'I want to see if New Yorkers steal flowers i hope not,' she said. 'But I'll be sending interns out there every day to replace them if they do.'

Valvo took a more traditional route, adorning his mannequin with a one-shoulder, ruffled frock.

'We tiled the entire mannequin for a touch of glamour then we manipulated jute and wire mesh into a floral inspired sculpture,' he said. Hilfiger cooked up a Pop Art inspired one, by covering the figure in what looks like an American flag blowing in the wind. He is expected for Thursday's kickoff in front of Macy's flagship along with Macy's Terry Lundgren, LF USA'S Rick Darling, The New York Times' Arthur Sulzberger, the Fashion Center BID's Barbara Randall and Fern Mallis.
